1. The Wind: Understanding the Chergui
The main engine of Essaouira's kite scene is the Chergui, a thermal north-easterly wind. It kicks in around April, peaks in July and August (often blowing 25-35 knots), and begins to taper in October. In summer, the wind typically builds throughout the day, offering perfect afternoon sessions.
2. The Spots: Essaouira Bay & Sidi Kaouki
Essaouira Bay is a wide crescent with side-shore wind, making it very safe for learning body dragging and water starts. Sidi Kaouki, located south, offers powerful waves and strong side-offshore winds, recommended for advanced riders who want to practice wave riding.
